The Role of Digital Skills in Creative Field
Personally, I think it's all about finding your own rhythm and ways of working efficiently. I scored 41 out of 50 on the digital competence survey, which landed me in the "advanced" category ⎯ not a huge surprise. I'm pretty familiar with the basics digital skills and many softwares we use in landscape architecture and I'm usually quick to troubleshoot technical issues.
That said, there's still so much to learn. I've only scratched the surface of coding (some C# as part of my VR minor), and web design is still a new area to explore for me. Setting up this blog was a smooth and easy ⎯ but figuring out Blogger's visual setting wasn't the most intuitive experience. Still, every day is a change to learn something new.
For students in creative disciplines, building digital confidence not only boosts the quality and flow of your work, but also opens up space to experiment, express and stay current in a fast- changing world. I think staying curious and patient is the key.
Catch you later!

Hi Emma, I can totally relate to your experience and my score on the digital competence survey was similar to yours :) And like you, I have only just started learning skills in coding and web design. Your point about staying curious and patient really resonated with me. One thing that helps me is setting small, specific learning goals each week. It keeps things manageable and gives a sense of progress. Keep up the great work, and I’m looking forward to seeing how your digital journey unfolds!
VastaaPoistaHey Emma! Great first post! :) Your score is a bit higher than mine and it seems like you have a lot of experience in digital skills. I agree with you that setting up the blog was smooth and easy! I love the bold layout you created! I also feel the same that it can be really frustrating learning all these digital tools and getting comfortable with them.
VastaaPoistaHi Emma! I really enjoyed reading your post. I can relate to the part about digital tools being frustrating at times. I also found setting up the blog surprisingly tricky, especially when it came to the visual layout. It’s cool that you’ve tried coding through your VR minor.

VastaaPoistaHey Emma! I think you nailed it with the point about finding your own rhythm and personal workflow. I think us architecture students are expected to know how to use a lot of different digital tools, yet they're not exactly taught as a part of the curriculum (or not in-depth, atleast). I have found the concept of peer learning as well as youtube tutorials superbly helpful for developing a workflow that suits me. Coding is still a new mountain to climb for myself too.
